In 2017, bicycle sharing became a big thing in China. Very many bike-share start-ups flooded cities with millions of rental bicycles. Inevitably the sudden appearance of hundreds of thousands of bicycles swamped demand and became an environmental balls-up of epic proportions. Bike sharing remains very popular in China and hopefully there are now appropriate regulations albeit after the bubble burst. The aftermath of the initial bicycle free-for-all beggars belief.
