Adventurous architectural design in Bangkok.

by The REJIGIT Blog

Designed by Büro Ole Scheeren Group, the MahaNakhon (middle at the centre) is a seventy seven storey complex located at Narathwas Ratchanakharin Road adjacent to Chongnonsi Sky Train Station in Bangkok’s Silom / Sathon central business district and was recently opened as Thailand’s tallest building. The structure was built for PACE Development Co., Ltd. (majority-owned by the Techakraisri family and headed by thirty eight year old Sorapoj Techakraisri) and also includes a landscaped public plaza with a multi-level retail complex including restaurants and cafés. The building also includes two hundred serviced apartments and a one hundred and fifty room five star Edition Hotel by Marriott International. A direct link to the Chongnonsi BTS Skytrain Station is available.

The 314 meter tower design provides for a three dimensional ribbon of architectural pixels giving the impression that the structure may be in a state of dissolve. If one were to be of a nervous disposition, being in the building could run riot with one's imagination.

The total complex covers 150,000 sq.m. and includes Tower Residences 67,000 sq.m., Residential Amenities 4,400 sq.m., Hotel 16,600 sq.m., Hotel Amenities 11,600 sq.m., Retail 5,900 sq.m., Sky Bar 3,500 sq.m., MEP 5,200 sq.m., Parking 10,400 sq.m., Retail 9,000 sq.m., Retail MEP 1,000 sq.m., Parking 5,400 sq.m., Offsite Parking 8,300 sq.m.

It is thought that the cost of construction was approximately US$620 million and the Ritz-Carlton Residences, Bangkok are priced at US$1,100,000 to US$17,000,000,
